Rule 5: Positive Thinking is great...

December 2nd, 2010
Positive thinking is great, but it is nothing without “positive doing”. – Ter Scott
Leap, and the net will appear.
Everything you want is out there waiting for you to ask. Everything you want also wants you. But you have to take action to get it.

Today we’ll discuss Rule 5 of the 10 Secret Rules for Attainment. We are at the midway point of the rules and is probably the most important of all: to act.
Begin -- to begin is half the work, let half still remain; again begin this, and thou wilt have finished.

I’m reminded how Zig Ziglar tells us that “Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.” You see, positive thinking is great, but it’s nothing without “positive doing”!

Recently I’ve been reading T. Harv Eker’s book: “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind”. On page 166 it reads in part:

Millions of people “think” about getting rich and thousands and thousands of people do affirmations, visualizations and meditations for getting rich. I meditate almost every day. Yet I’ve never sat there meditating or visualizing and had a bag of money drop on my heads. I guess I’m just one of those unfortunate ones who actually has to do something to be a success.

Affirmations, meditations, and visualizations are all wonderful tools, but as far as I can tell, none of them on its own is going to bring you real money in the real world, In the real work, you have to take real “action” to succeed.

On this blog, you can order your own “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” for yourself and read more. I agree totally with the author (who obviously walks the walk, and has the “fruit on the tree”; proof of reward for his experience). By following these 10 Secret Rules for Attainment, you are doing everything to get the universe to arrange all things for you to accept, but you still need to “accept” them which require action. The door will be made for you, but you need to walk through it.
You may even need to walk for a while to find the door to walk through. Someone once told his business mentor that he could not build his business where he lived because “there were no people” living where he lived. Now obviously, this person was “blind” to everyone he saw dialy at his place of work, at the gas station, the grocery store, etc. But the wise words from his mentor were this: “if there are no people where you live, and you seriously want to build this business, then you need to move to where there are people”. The universe was opening doors for this person, but he would have to move elsewhere for the door of opportunity.
We need to get quiet, and meditate on our desires. Then make a mental picture of the desire(s) we want; not what others want for us, and finally guard those desires as if they were our precious baby. Now, we need to act, to nurture these dreams and bring them about by recognizing “signs” that the universe shows us.
A job loss may be a sign that you should move closer to home so relatives can help by watching your kids while you go to school. A bonus or gift may mean that you have unexpected money now that you can invest in a business. Watch for signs along your way that tell you to stop, turn, slow down, and speed up, or turn around. They are there; in the form of situations, comments from others, etc.
You can also recognize “road signs” toward your goal/dreams/desires by mapping out your route with goal setting. Choose your goal, set a final date that you will accomplish that goal and break it up into smaller goals with dates in between as points of reference that tell you if you are on track.  Keep a journal in a notebook or word document on your computer to see where you’ve been, where you are, and where you are going.
At this midway point, I want to congratulate you for making it this far. Many people buy books, invest in seminars, and only read the first chapter, or quit before they really start because they don’t ACT!  But you are here, you’ve come a long way!  If you’ve stumbled a bit; no problem. You can review what we talked about up to this point, and then move on.
Dwell not on the past. Use it to illustrate a point, then leave it behind. Nothing really matters except what you do now in this instant of time. From this moment onwards you can be an entirely different person, filled with love and understanding, ready with an outstretched hand, uplifted and positive in every thought and deed.

Continue to act. Until we meet again, go forth and do (act) great things!
Ter Scott!

Action quotes:
Below are a few “action” quotes. I suggest that you choose (act) a few that you like and write them on a 3 x 5 card and review them daily for a week. This will aid you in attaining your goals/dream(s)/desires.

The greatest potential for control the ends to exist at the point where action takes place.
A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.
Are you in earnest? Seize this very minute! Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Only engage, and then the mind grows heated. Begin, and then the work will be completed.
For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.
Thou wilt find rest from vain fancies if thou doest every act in life as though it were thy last.
Begin -- to begin is half the work, let half still remain; again begin this, and thou wilt have finished.
It is easy to sit up and take notice, What is difficult is getting up and taking action.
The secret of getting ahead is getting started.
Think like a man of action, and act like a man of thought.
Never forget that life can only be nobly inspired and rightly lived if you take it bravely and gallantly, as a splendid adventure in which you are setting out into an unknown country, to meet many a joy, to find many a comrade, to win and lose many a battle.
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. [Matthew 7:120]
You can't aim a duck to death.
The world can only be grasped by action, not by contemplation. The hand is the cutting edge of the mind.
It is vain to say human beings ought to be satisfied with tranquillity: they must have action; and they will make it if they cannot find it.
Let your performance do the thinking.
You must take action now that will move you towards your goals. Develop a sense of urgency in your life.
Let us do or die.
The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It's as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.
Every action we take, everything we do, is either a victory or defeat in the struggle to become what we want to be.
Every action of our lives touches on some chord that will vibrate in eternity.
Action makes more fortune than caution.
Begin to free yourself at once by doing all that is possible with the means you have, and as you proceed in this spirit the way will open for you to do more.
If you don't make things happen then things will happen to you.
Jump into the middle of things, get your hands dirty, fall flat on your face, and then reach for the stars.
The secret of getting things done is to act!
If you keep thinking about what you want to do or what you hope will happen, you don't do it, and it won't happen.
Action may not always bring happiness; but there is no happiness without action.
